17th CONVERSATION WITH AN UMMITE - Jorge Barrenechea, 19 January 1988, from 18:20 to 18:45, duration 25'

I was in my kitchen drinking a glass of water when our dear and kind friends called me again. At first I was writing in a very uncomfortable position, but when he told me to ask my brothers' questions, I asked his permission to sit at the table.

Ummo - We are going to send you the 3rd part of the UMMOWOA report. One of your brothers will receive it at his building, but IT IS FOR YOU. The building must have a concierge so that our messenger (a woman) can enter without difficulty. Which of your brothers, who will henceforth receive the report, do you think will meet the condition of having a concierge?

Jorge Barrenechea - Well, I am thinking of José Luis Jordán Peña and Juan Aguirre. Besides, I am very glad you are addressing them, so that they may have the same joy as I.

U. - For very powerful reasons, the envelope will be addressed to you. Your brothers will only be the intermediaries of the moment. Tell your brother Rafael Farriols Calvo that with the company REPSOL one must ACT WITH CAUTION, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ACTING IN GOOD FAITH. WE REPEAT: ACT WITH CAUTION.
What is your opinion of the last report we sent you?

JB. - Well, what can I tell you? It is the summit of everything you have been telling us for 22 years. We feel so honoured that we are beside ourselves with joy. Moreover, everything you tell us is a source of hope and consolation.

U. - But we fear that some of your brothers may feel hurt by everything that violates their body of beliefs.

JB. - I believe you need not worry about that.

U. - It pleases us to the highest degree that your brother Rafael Farriols attends the Sunday meetings. We feel a deep affection for him.

JB. - So do I, and for the same reason... (Here I say something I should not have said either by telephone or by fax; that is why our friend cuts me off).

U. - No allusion to that on the telephone.

JB. - Have you recorded the last meetings?

U. - Yes. We feel more honoured by the presence of your brother Rafael Farriols.

JB. - May I ask a question?

U. - Yes.

JB. - What can we do in this life to soften and eliminate the intellectual sufferings of RECONFORMATION?

U. - We will answer that question in some way. Now you must ask us about the projects of your brothers Juan Domínguez and Rafael Farriols.

JB. - Allow me to change telephones.

(Once there I put Rafael's question no. 5. In fact I made a mistake, because I put no. 4, but I thought I had already put it. What happened is that I had left the 4th to put first. So the question put was):

- Is my project for the new factory still rational? Should I modify it? In what direction?

(I think it is the moment to put question no. 4)

As for my brother Juan Domínguez, I have no specific question of his to hand, but I know the company is in negotiations.

U. - Yes. With CIRSA.

JB. - Because any information on this point will be of great use to my brother.

U. - Do you have any question about ANOTHER PROJECT of yours?

JB. - Yes. You see, I believe I understood from the conversation I had with you on 17 March that you were suggesting that for OPTICAL FIBRE we turn to the USSR, and I have made contact with the embassy and with the Spain - USSR association, of which I am a member, to support me.

U. - NOT ONLY THAT SOURCE; any other source too.

We consider very interesting a commercial nucleus located in the centre of Spain. You will meet difficulties, BUT YOU WILL SEE HOW RIGHT that decision is. You must collaborate with several of your brothers. It is FUNDAMENTAL THAT ALL OF THEM HAVE A PSYCHIC AFFINITY. You must not place your trust in outside brothers. The future of this subsector is very interesting. Do not turn only to SOVIET industry, although it should not be ruled out either.

JB. - Isn't it that we know no other sources than the United States, Japan and Israel?

U. - Germany too.
All those of your brothers familiar with company management, if they wish, (he does not insist). Because that will avoid internal tensions with persons not akin to your psychism. Your brother Rafael Farriols has suffered its consequences.

JB. - What is your opinion of "P"? (He does not answer me and goes on)

U. - That brother (RF) must turn towards the subsector we spoke of. It is NOT advisable to mix them, although in a first phase he may start with CRITESA. That is not very certain. The suitability of the staff is fundamental. We will advise you.

JB. - So I believe I understand that, although we start with CRITESA, we must detach ourselves at once.

U. - In a certain way, yes. Your brother Rafael Farriols must exercise management at the top.

JB. - I believe everyone agrees on that point.

U. - CRITESA must devote itself to polymers and delegate the activity of the other sectors. In principle there is no objection to CRITESA taking the first steps in that management by organising an independent office. So that CRITESA limits itself to POLYMERS, but it must leave the first steps to the other subsector.

JB. - May I ask some of my brother Rafael's questions?

He cuts off abruptly and stays silent on the line for five minutes, despite my entreaties.
