23rd CONVERSATION WITH MARISOL - Jorge Barrenechea, 25 May 1988, Ummite letter dictated by telephone
OPTRONICS
To my friends Jorge Barrenechea and Rafael Farriols:
In the name of our friendship, allow us to place our hand upon your chest.
We have picked up your telephone conversations through our (listening) system. We consider URGENT a secret merger of the members we list below:
Rafael Farriols and Juan Domínguez will get in touch with an exclusively Western firm, which they will choose themselves. The contact made by Mr Farriols is valid.
Juan Domínguez will be in charge of setting up his centre of operations in Madrid with a minimal infrastructure.
For his part, Mr Barrenechea, with complete independence and assisted by his nephew Julián, will focus on the Eastern market (the Zeiss firm is valid), operating autonomously.
Until we give advice on merging, you must keep the two groups.
The other members of the selected group (understood to be the rest = Marisol) must wait for our advice before intervening.
These instructions are of great consequence. Their importance must take precedence over all other priorities. The two groups must operate independently of the flow of CAPITAL contributed. This forces us to assume that Barrenechea's project is the more fragile one. Until the moment of the merger, or at a dangerous moment, the consortium and the chosen firm will make no transfer of capital.
