D57-2 Discovery of the Earth - Arrival and first days

FIRST ARRIVAL IN THE VICINITY OF THE EARTH

On 7 January 1949, after the exploration of the Planets NEPTUNE and MARS, our brothers travelling in two OAUOLEA UEUA OEMM (SPACESHIPS) arrived in the vicinity of a new OOYAGAA provided with an atmosphere much denser than that recorded on the previous body. The first exploration was made in a helical orbit over an elliptical band whose perigee was 337 Kilometres from the terrestrial surface and its apogee 398 Kilometres.

Already during the exploration of Neptune a very wide range of radio emissions from the Earth had been received, which allowed our brothers to identify this Planet. The presence of higher life on it was therefore evident. No other source of emission was identified, from which it was reasonably deduced that the rest of the OYAA (COLD BODIES) gravitationally bound to the OOYIA (Called by you the SUN) lacked intelligent biological forms, or at least ones endowed with developed Techniques. This last reasoning led the explorers to head for an OOYAA which they coded with the designation   (You know it by the name of MARS)

(That first examination, made at a distance of 290 KOAEE (One KOAE is equivalent to approximately 8.7 Kilometres), revealed the absence of an atmosphere dense enough to allow the external development of complex multicellular beings. The traces of multiple meteorite impacts and the crystalline structure of the soil, verified by our remote sounding instruments, revealed the absence of active bacteriological life producing decomposition of that soil, at least in the small areas explored. (We have since discovered on this OYAA not only protein forms and amino acids, but simple unicellular and multicellular plant beings. (You will soon verify this too).

The strict programme of examination of an inhabited OYAA began to be put into practice. Above all, the rationalization of measures for escape in the event of attack made it necessary to maintain a very high speed of translation, which hampered the precision of the observations. It seemed evident that the OOYAGA (SQUARE STAR) recorded by our UMMO was precisely the one we were analysing (I express myself in the plural, referring to my brothers, since I personally was still on UMMO).

We knew that if you had reached a certain degree of civilization you would detect our presence instantly. In case this presumption should prove false, the criterion prevailed of not manifesting our presence ostensibly. This was for obvious reasons. If we wish to study a Civilization in all its purity, our presence would cause social disturbances, abnormal activity in the technical means of defence, detection and interception, as well as serious disturbances in the means of communication relating to the probable information Network. A Social Network thus deformed or disturbed by the presence of beings foreign to it cannot be studied analytically in all its purity. You would find a simile in a specialist in bacteriology who wished, for example, to study a new strain of spirochaetes. It would not occur to him to disturb the culture medium with new germs that would alter the biological process of the first ones. If he did, the elementary forms of behaviour of these microorganisms in the field of his microscope would be abnormal.

(OBSERVATION)

This and no other is the reason why our presence among you is unofficial. Some of the persons with whom we maintain contact, especially those of North American and Australian nationality, repeatedly and naively ask us why we do not make ourselves known Officially.

It is curious to note that among them are terrestrial men who, given their erudition and scientific training, ought to reason out for themselves the real causes that oblige us to hold back. We certainly believed that you would be more consistent. We can understand that the mass man of Earth, poorly endowed with intellectual faculties, should maintain the stupid hypothesis that both we and other presumed galactic visitors ought to present ourselves with one of our UEUA OEMMM (Called by you Flying saucers) in the middle of a great Square in New York, dressed in silver overalls and with a death-ray rifle, as in Science Fiction novels. That is, they judge us eager for an absurd popularity. Their embryonic and primitive reasoning seems to be this: “If these beings come from another Star, why do they not make themselves known and prove it? Any expert in the Philosophy of Earth would call such a sophism “Begging the Question”.

Undoubtedly, we (And we presume neither do other presumed visitors who may be among you) Have absolutely no interest in the terrestrial social network having certainty of our presence.

Even at the beginning, as we shall go on relating, our brothers took precautions so as to go totally unnoticed. As we became steeped in your culture and came to know the laws of Terrestrial Social Psychology, we realised that the gradual revelation of our presence to a few persons would not be dangerous, since the rest of society would react with incredulity, as has indeed happened. Do you think that if it were not so we would risk getting in touch with you? It has even happened that three persons, publicists by profession, with whom we maintain conversations have published our accounts (in Three Newspapers or Magazines of POLAND, SPAIN and CANADA), their readers logically adopting the natural sceptical attitude we expected.

Of course this attitude would change if we were to present ourselves ostentatiously, providing proof of our identity, before the Terrestrial Press and the governmental or international technical bodies. An attitude we have no intention whatever of adopting for the time being.

In this way we have managed to achieve two objectives. Direct contact with a group of terrestrial inhabitants, in order to exchange data about our respective civilizations, while avoiding disturbing the rest of terrestrial Society, which remains on the sidelines of a situation it judges legendary owing to the insufficiency of proof.

Unfortunately we have not been able to achieve another objective: to go unnoticed by the technical bodies of the States. The United States, France, England, the Soviet Union, and, we suspect with good reason, Italy, Germany and the Argentine Republic, are aware of our presence and are discreetly concerned, even though we have informally expressed to them how unfounded their fears are. As for the possibility that knowledge of this situation might provoke reactions of anxiety or panic in the Civilian Population, the Chancelleries of these governments may rest assured, at least as far as the brothers from UMMO are concerned. We shall not make ourselves known for the time being. The risk of its leaking out through the few scientists and writers with whom we are in contact is NIL, except for a few persons of high critical spirit and powers of observation among the relatives and friends of our correspondents.

The rest, saturated with prejudices and narrow mental frameworks, and many of them conscious of the risk of fraud that may be involved in our revelations, will maintain an uncompromising stance)

That is why we urge you not to be over-zealous in spreading the reality of our existence among the persons of your small circle. By doing so you would not only make them judge you a dreamer or a mentally disturbed person, but your own professional stability might be damaged. To those who, without prior analytical examination of the facts, show an attitude of scepticism, believing themselves thereby very “intelligent”, hasten to agree with them without further comment.

FIRST VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE EARTH’S CRUST BY OUR BROTHERS.

The cloud banks, abundant at that date over the American continent and southern Asia, did not of course prevent a clear view of the dense network of communications (Identified later as roads and railways, although an earlier error seemed to identify them as tubular pipelines). This allowed a first estimate of your degree of technical civilization (we have not had a road network for a long time). Your first aircraft was detected in the vicinity of an archipelago that we have since identified as the Bahama Islands. The image was enlarged in the on-board laboratory and its morphological characteristics analysed. This was the first indication of the technological level that we were able to obtain. During the 86 UIW that the analysis lasted (they went as low as 0.62 KOAE over an area later identified as the south-west of the Helvetic Republic (SWITZERLAND)), images were captured of Urban and industrial centres as well as railway junctions, concentrations of flora (Forests and plantations), floating structures on the Atlantic Ocean and stretches of river courses, as well as multiple samples of atmospheric gas at different levels and latitudes. We still keep as a historical curiosity the image obtained of one of the streets of the town of Montreux (SWITZERLAND), in which the first human individuals captured by our equipment can be seen. The blurred features do not, however, prevent analysis of the fundamental physiological traits and the morphology of their clothing.

It was impossible at that time to extend the period of exploration if they wished to return to our UMMO before the ISODYNAMIC conditions of Space reverted to an unfavourable phase. Not once did our UEUA (SHIPS) make direct contact with the Earth’s crust.

(In our next report I shall begin for you a historical synthesis of our second journey and the descent of the first brothers)

ANALYSIS ON “UMMO” OF THE SAMPLES COLLECTED ON EARTH.

The impact produced in our Society by the news that the Civilization of OYAAGAA (Your PLANET) had been identified was truly overwhelming.

Our technicians immediately set about the careful examination of the objective data obtained (Air samples, optical Images and phonemes picked up by radio), as well as the subjective accounts of the brothers who made up that first expedition.

It was necessary to form for ourselves, with those abundant but undoubtedly insufficient data, a first image, presumably distorted, of the social structure and the degree of Civilization.

That primitive conception we formed is today very far removed from our present perspective. But I wish to offer you, as a mere curiosity, the idea we conceived at that Time of what the Terrestrial Civilization might be like. The errors were several, but the sketch made nevertheless presented numerous points in common with reality.

In the first place, three images of human beings were available. The first and most complete corresponded to individuals of differentiated sex walking between two built structures. The careful analysis, although it did not allow facial features to be distinguished, left no doubt as to sexual identification, thanks to the location of the female breasts in some figures. It was impossible, however, to determine small details of clothing. We also discovered that the YIE (WOMEN in our language) were characterized by abundant cranial hair, although it might be some fibrous headdress. Unfortunately some images of YIE (Clearly differentiated by the bust) covered their legs just like the men, which gave rise to controversies about the differentiation and identification of clothing for the two sexes.

This analysis was very important: our brothers selected to travel to Earth would have to be provided with EEUE (CLOTHES) similar to the terrestrial ones in order to pass unnoticed. Unfortunately it was not possible to determine either their composition (We did not know they were fibrous fabrics until our arrival) or the most essential details of their making.

A second point debated related to the most suitable zone, among those explored, for the descent of our brothers. Of course it would have to be an unpopulated zone, without being so desert-like as to prevent the expedition members from all cautious contact with the inhabitants.

Seen from your perspective this seems very simple, for apparently it is enough to examine the topographic UULAYA (CAPTURED IMAGES) and select a semi-wild geographical setting. But we did not know whether the men of Earth lived in underground “hives”. Do not forget that we concentrate population and buildings in the open air only in the case of what you call industrial Plants, while the rest of the population lives dispersed in XAABI (emergent DWELLINGS) that can be retracted underground. Moreover, other inhabited Planets concentrate their human beings in great underground colonies. Was this the case of Ayaggaa (Planet Earth)? The buildings we now know to be your dwellings we identified at first as factories, but what intrigued us most were the images obtained of long vertical tubes situated on all those buildings, and the nozzles on the vehicles our cameras managed to capture, all of them expelling dark-coloured vapours or aerosols (Smoke).

You cannot imagine the astonishment caused us by something that is familiar to you: the small cylinders in the mouths of some humans. The spectral analysis of the gases expelled showed a strong dose of carbon oxide, tars and Hydrocarbons. We then imagined that the physiological organisms of terrestrials might perhaps be unable to live in an atmosphere of Oxygen and Nitrogen free of such gases, so that you needed to add them to the circulating air to make it more breathable. This filled us with uneasiness, thinking of the consequences such an artificial climate might have for us.

(Once we had arrived on Earth, as we shall relate later, this hypothesis was further corroborated by seeing you with those tobacco cylinders, which we interpreted at first as gas generators for breathing, and we marvelled all the more on observing that children and other individuals did not carry them)

I was telling you that strong disagreements arose among the technicians in trying to select the terrestrial zone where the descent of the expedition members was to take place, for if we chose the apparently least populated one we ran the risk of placing ourselves precisely in the midst of concentrations located underground, and of being detected and perhaps destroyed by you.

The detailed study of images corresponding to several aircraft gave us an index of your technological level. Some still had aerodynamic traction by propellers. The welds between metal sheets were carefully examined (We still did not know, however, that the metal was alloyed aluminium), as well as the structures of some of their auxiliary mechanisms.

There was something that made us conceive a totally aberrant idea of the Terrestrial Social Network. Several hundred radio-electromagnetic emissions were recorded coming from various points of this Planet, over a wide range of frequencies. We were thus able to appreciate with astonishment the enormous linguistic multiplicity, even though, when our specialists in Acoustic Technique classified those that showed homogeneity in their phonemes, they identified in some cases two or three as one by mistake. We were strongly struck by the fact that a large part of the emissions picked up on Metric wavelengths had the same character of Binary language (Short impulse, Long impulse) already picked up by us in that first message.

But on trying to translate it with the same criterion as that one, we realised our error. What could be the real code used by you? A conclusion was reached. The inhabitants of OYAAGA (Planet EARTH) used a multitude of languages, and in order for the various communities to relate to one another they would logically use an international language, unique, based on short and long whistles, whose code was still inscrutable to us (We have since verified that this hypothesis was very simplistic, since Morse Code in turn serves as a vehicle for many languages). To complicate the picture still further, we picked up Television Video emissions. But we did not know that such frequencies carried an image. As we interpreted them acoustically, and moreover all those recorded came from what we later identified as North America, we thought that three languages were spoken in that zone, the last of which (Video signals) bore not the slightest resemblance to the others.

The enormous linguistic anarchy (Further complicated by those false interpretations), together with the immense range of technical differences observed in the many pieces of equipment and buildings in different zones of the Planet, filled us with real perplexity.

It was thus impossible for us to form a coherent picture of what the Terrestrial Civilization might be.

The atmospheric composition, on the other hand, obtained from various samples at several points of the OYAA and at different levels, showed us that we could descend without the need for auxiliary breathing equipment.

There remained only the extremely important question of the enantiomorphic structure of the protein molecules: were they Dextrorotatory or laevorotatory? If the biological molecules of the beings and foods of Earth turned out to be the inverse of ours, it would be impossible for our digestive organs to assimilate them, and we were condemned to hunger if we did not carry our own food. It was of course necessary to provide the expedition with other auxiliary equipment to purify the water in case it contained toxic salts in suspension, assimilable perhaps by the inhabitants of OYAGAA (Earth) but not by us.

The policy to be followed with you was carefully drawn up. Violent defence in case of attack. Initiation of official contacts in the event of being detected and peacefully controlled. Absolute restraint, and an attempt by every technique within our reach to pass unnoticed. For which we took it for granted that it would be almost impossible to pass unnoticed among the Terrestrials. An underground observatory would then be installed in the most suitable rural zone, and the most feasible methods and techniques of observation would be studied on the ground.

Even in this we were mistaken, as we shall see later, for we noticed with astonishment that it was perfectly possible to mingle among you without arousing surprise.

The programme of preparations began immediately. The persons who were to make up the first expedition were carefully selected.

Among the six chosen there were only two YIEE (As we call Women). All of them learned long fragments of the various languages picked up (Without knowing their meaning at all), solely in order to familiarize the EESEE OA (SUBCONSCIOUS) with the phonic structure of the terrestrial codes of acoustic expression. They were able to examine all the informative material captured, and they familiarized themselves with the forms of many plants, whose images were the clearest among those of the Terrestrial Flora sighted. Little data indeed for some Oemii who were going to face an unknown World.
